About Dr. Marc Gerdisch, Heart Surgeon
Dr. Marc Gerdisch is a renowned heart surgeon who practices at Franciscan Health Heart Valve Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is an expert in minimally invasive valve surgery, mitral valve repair and reconstruction, Transcatheter aortic valve repair (TAVR) and root surgery, redo cardiac surgeries, and complex multi-valve operations. He is also a pioneer in cardiac tissue regeneration, next-generation heart valves, and atrial fibrillation surgery.
Dr. Gerdisch graduated from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in 1987 and completed his residency and fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. He is the chief of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, co-director of the Heart Valve Center and Atrial Fibrillation Program at Franciscan St. Francis Health and a senior partner with Cardiac Surgery Associates. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, and the Heart Rhythm Society.
Dr. Gerdisch has performed over 6,000 cardiac surgeries, of which 4,000 involved heart valve procedures. He has achieved many firsts in the field of cardiac surgery, such as being the first in the United States to implant the On-X Aortic Prosthetic Valve with Anatomic Sewing Ring, the first in the world to repair heart valves using cutting-edge technology to allow the heart to naturally regrow tissue, and among the first in the nation to treat patients with the FDA-approved Edwards SAPIEN Transcatheter Heart Valve.
