About Dr. Justin Schaffer, Heart Surgeon
Greetings! I'm Dr. Justin Schaffer, a cardiac surgeon who graduated from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2010. Over the course of my career, I have successfully completed around 3,000 cardiac surgeries, with particular expertise in heart valve procedures, accounting for 2,000 of those cases. I regularly practice at Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital - Plano.
I am experienced in various advanced interventions for aortic valve and aortic root conditions. These include valve-sparing aortic root replacement, the Ross procedure, and the repair of bicuspid aortic valves. I am also skilled in minimally invasive techniques such as port-access mitral valve repair and mini-sternotomy aortic valve replacement. Additionally, I have expertise in complex aortic arch surgery, as well as endovascular procedures like transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). Furthermore, I have proficiency in robotic techniques, specifically robotic-assisted minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Apart from my specialization in heart valve surgery, I have extensive experience in aortic surgeries. I have performed over 1,000 operations involving aortic dissections and aneurysm therapies.
- Aortic valve disease (TAVR and surgical AVR)
- Mitral valve repair
- Minimally invasive cardiac surgery
In addition, I have research and clinical interests specific to:
- Long-term survival after cardiac surgery
- Thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections
- Coronary artery disease
