About Dr. Marc Gerdisch, Heart Surgeon
Greetings! I'm Dr. Marc Gerdisch, a cardiac surgeon who completed my medical degree at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in 1987. Throughout my career, I have conducted around 6,000 cardiac surgeries, with a focus on heart valve procedures, accounting for approximately 4,000 of those surgeries. Currently, I operate at the Franciscan Health Heart Valve Center.
I consider my greatest strength to be my ability to collaborate with patients in understanding their valve problems within the broader context of their overall health and lives. It is a privilege for me to be able to work alongside my patients and our entire team to help them return to fulfilling lives. I play a central role in a program that focuses on excellence in diagnosing and treating heart valve disease, allowing me to perform around 300 cardiac surgeries each year. These surgeries encompass a wide range of procedures, including transcatheter valve replacement, minimally invasive valve repair, multi-valve reoperations, and adult congenital cardiac surgery.
For the past fifteen years, I have also dedicated myself to ensuring excellence in the treatment of atrial fibrillation and have trained numerous surgeons to address this condition for their patients. Preserving and restoring the natural architecture and function of the heart is my top priority. I place a strong emphasis on valve repair whenever possible, aiming to avoid valve replacement.
