Coronary artery bypass surgery is a surgical procedure that creates a new path for blood to flow around a blocked or partially blocked artery in the heart.
A coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is done by taking a healthy blood vessel from another part of the body and connecting it to an artery in the heart. This allows blood to flow around the blocked or partially blocked artery, which can improve blood circulation and oxygen levels in the heart muscle.
This is done with open heart surgery (OHS), where surgeons make an incision in the chest and use specialized instruments to perform this procedure.
