A clinical measure is a standard that is used to evaluate the performance of a healthcare provider or system. Clinical measures are important in ensuring that patients receive the best care possible. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) defines clinical measures as “standards for evaluating and improving the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care.” They are meant to be used as tools for clinical improvement by providers, health plans, and other stakeholders in the healthcare system.
