Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is a medical therapy commonly used to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and other respiratory conditions. It involves the application of a steady, continuous flow of pressurized air to the airways during sleep. The CPAP device consists of a mask that fits over the nose and/or mouth, which is connected to a small machine that delivers the pressurized air. CPAP helps maintain the airways open, preventing interruptions in breathing and promoting regular airflow, thus alleviating the symptoms of sleep apnea.
