« Back to Glossary Index

Diovan HCT is a medication that contains a combination of two active ingredients: valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), which works by blocking the effects of a hormone called angiotensin II, which can cause blood vessels to narrow. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic, which helps the kidneys remove extra fluid from the body and lower blood pressure. Diovan HCT is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It can help to prevent heart attacks, stroke, and kidney problems.
