1 – AcrySof®
ACRYSOF® is a type of intraocular lens (IOL) that is used to replace the natural lens of the eye during cataract surgery. Developed by Alcon, a division of Novartis, ACRYSOF® is designed to provide clear vision at a range of distances, reducing the need for glasses or contact lenses.
ACRYSOF® IOLs are made from a patented material called hydrophobic acrylic, which resists the build-up of proteins and other substances that can cloud the lens over time. They are available in a range of powers and designs to suit the specific needs of individual patients.
During cataract surgery, the natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial lens, such as ACRYSOF®. The IOL is inserted through a small incision in the eye and then positioned in the same place as the natural lens. Once in place, the lens provides clear vision, allowing the patient to see more clearly than before.
ACRYSOF® IOLs have been used in millions of cataract surgeries worldwide and are considered safe and effective. As with any medical device, there are some risks associated with their use, such as infection, bleeding, or problems with vision. Patients should discuss the risks and benefits of ACRYSOF® with their healthcare provider before undergoing cataract surgery.
