Medical Device Types

Type 1 – SAPIEN 3 Valve

The SAPIEN 3 valve is a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) device made by Edwards Lifesciences. It is used to treat patients with severe aortic stenosis, a condition in which the aortic valve becomes narrowed and does not open properly, which can lead to heart failure. The SAPIEN 3 valve is inserted via a catheter (a small tube) into the heart through a small incision in the leg or chest, rather than through open-heart surgery. This is a less invasive option for patients who may not be able to tolerate traditional surgery. The SAPIEN 3 valve has been shown to be safe and effective in clinical trials and is approved for use in many countries.

Type 2 – Evolut™ R

The Evolut R is a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) device made by Medtronic. It is used to treat patients with severe aortic stenosis, a condition in which the aortic valve becomes narrowed and does not open properly, which can lead to heart failure. The Evolut R is inserted via a catheter (a small tube) into the heart through a small incision in the leg or chest, rather than through open-heart surgery. This is a less invasive option for patients who may not be able to tolerate traditional surgery.

Evolut R

The Evolut R is designed with a low-profile, self-expanding frame which allows for accurate positioning and stability of the valve. It also has a unique sealing cuff that conforms to the shape of the patient’s native annulus, the ring of the aortic valve, for improved hemodynamic performance. The device has been shown to be safe and effective in clinical trials and is approved for use in many countries.

Type 3 – ACURATE neo2™

The ACURATE neo2 is a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) device made by Boston Scientific. It is used to treat patients with severe aortic stenosis, a condition in which the aortic valve becomes narrowed and does not open properly, which can lead to heart failure. The ACURATE neo2 is inserted via a catheter (a small tube) into the heart through a small incision in the leg or chest, rather than through open-heart surgery. This is a less invasive option for patients who may not be able to tolerate traditional surgery.

ACURATE neo2™

The ACURATE neo2 is designed with a unique self-expanding nitinol frame which allows for improved flexibility and conformability to the patient’s native annulus, the ring of the aortic valve. It also features a low-profile delivery system for improved access and ease of use. The device has been shown to be safe and effective in clinical trials and is approved for use in many countries.
