Introduction

Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Cupertino, California, United States. In addition to its many features for fitness and daily use, the Apple medical smartwatches has also become a popular tool for tracking various health metrics and providing medical monitoring.

With the release of the Series 7 model and later, the Apple Watch includes an ECG app that allows users to take an electrocardiogram to detect irregular heart rhythms, as well as a fall detection feature that can alert emergency services if the user falls and does not respond.

The watch also includes a variety of health and fitness tracking capabilities, such as tracking steps, calories burned, heart rate, and more. With its increasing medical capabilities, the Apple Watch has become an important tool for both consumers and healthcare providers alike.

Apple has a number of health-related features that include:

  • Health app: Apple’s Health app tracks various health metrics such as steps taken, calories burned, heart rate, sleep, and more. It also integrates with other health apps and devices.
  • ECG app: The ECG app on the Apple Watch Series 4 later allows users to take an electrocardiogram to detect irregular heart rhythms.
  • Fall detection: The Apple Watch Series 4 and later has fall detection capabilities, which can detect when a user falls and automatically send an alert to emergency services if the user doesn’t respond.
  • Noise monitoring: The Noise app on the Apple Watch Series 4 later measures the ambient sound levels in the user’s environment and alerts them if the levels are high enough to potentially damage their hearing.
  • Fitness+ service: Apple’s Fitness+ service offers a variety of workout classes taught by professional trainers, which can be accessed on an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.
  • Health Records: Apple’s Health Records feature allows users to view their medical records from participating healthcare providers, all in one place on their iPhones.

Other Popular Medical Smart Watches Include:

Apple Watch Series 7

Of course, we had to start with quite possibly the most talked about smartwatch. In fact, one of the most talked about brand. And we, too, have a lot to say about it!

Since its launch in 2015, the Apple smartwatch has come a long way in terms of aesthetics, functionality, as well as health features.

Let’s shift our focus to the health features. The Series 7 continues to measure the blood oxygen level, checks your heart with an electrocardiogram (ECG), and also is able to detect signs of irregular heart rhythms.

However, only the ECG has received FDA clearance; the blood oxygen monitor did not. It also offers decent interoperability, where data from the watch can be exported to an electronic medical record. It also has Medical IDs for its users that emergency room clinicians can access for medical information.

Everyone knows that Apple guarantees only the highest security for its users and the Apple Watch is no exception. All health data is encrypted, while in transit and at rest.

Through the Apple Watch Series 7, you can track and improve the quality of sleep, offering metrics such as the amount of time you slept, heart rate, blood oxygen, and sleeping respiratory rate – the breaths you take per minute. It also enables patients to track and manage medications with reminders and schedules.

It also has a noise app that monitors decibel levels and alerts the user that high levels can damage hearing. As with all other models, the Series 7 allows users to track their workouts and offers a library of various types of workouts; there’s even a Tai Chi workout!

It also has a “Mindfulness” app, which is particularly interesting. According to Apple, it is meant to help users “focus, center, and connect as you breathe.” It’s a way to have a quick meditation session and de-stress yourself anywhere, anytime.

A significant feature that the Series 7 offers is its ability to detect if you’ve taken a hard fall and then automatically call your emergency contact. Not only is this rather revolutionary, but it’s very well thought-of; it’s a feature that can be of great use to athletes, weekend warriors, seniors and others.

Conclusion

Apple Medical Smartwatches have made significant strides in revolutionizing the healthcare industry. These smartwatches offer advanced features for health monitoring and tracking, including heart rate monitoring, ECG readings, and activity tracking. Apple Medical Smart Watches are especially beneficial for those managing chronic diseases as they allow patients to track their symptoms and communicate with healthcare professionals in real time.

Great for folks into fitness and health

    March 6, 2023

I have really enjoyed having my Apple Watch as a way to track my health and fitness performance and goals. It has meshed seamlessly with my current workout routine and offers some incredible metrics. I have become a consistent wearer of the device and appreciate its reminders to stand up and move during long days at the desk. The sleep-tracking feature is also quite impressive. It took me a bit of time to get accustomed to wearing a watch at night, and it’s still not completely comfortable. Despite that challenge, it’s been interesting to see trends in my sleep patterns and be informed in taking steps to improve them.

Love it! I finally like wearing a watch

    March 6, 2023

I never liked wearing a watch. Until now. My watch mirrors my iPhone but some apps on the watch are not available on my phone, like an ECG (EKG) app, a heart rate app, a blood oxygen app, and one that detects if I’ve fallen and takes appropriate action. My watch is the GPS version and the larger 45 sizes. The sports band is so comfortable that I wear my watch overnight too.

And, oh yes, I like using the watch as a phone when someone calls while my phone is in my purse. The sound quality at both ends is excellent.
